PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE - September/October 2010

President David Dunlap...
Dave Dunlap

WAY TO GO!!!! Those dedicated readers of the Newsletter will recall that in the last issue I challenged the club to raise $5,000 at the July auction. All right - it was maybe a bit optimistic but it absolutely was obtainable. Well by golly we darned near made it. After it was all said and done we cleared over $4,000. You guys are great. Now if some of you missed out on the Auction, don't despair, as you have yet another opportunity to participate in a major fundraiser. The Tulare Fair is just around the corner and along with that comes the club Raffle. We once again have three items in the raffle. The first one is a Classic Buckhorn Bench made by Al Sindlinger and will be awarded to the first ticket drawn for the raffle at the October meeting. This is a very nice piece that would fit in with most any decor. Next is a nice assortment of SJFWA Toys including an "over the top" cradle custom fitted with a Quilt, pillow and mattress made by Bev Gulley and the cutest rag doll ever made by Nancy Rich. Also in this group are a dandy 12-car train set made by Glen Gray and a cool little steamroller-riding toy made by Bill Bridger. This one is sure to be a favorite with the kids. The third item and the one that will go to the third winning ticket is Bill Bridger's Old West Wagon. This is last years wagon on steroids! You're not going to believe this thing. It has Amish-made wooden spoke wheels, a beefed up running gear and a custom crafted, powder coated steel handle with a wooden grip so the little shavers won't burn their hand in the hot summers. This was felt to be necessary because once a kid gets a hold of this wagon they will not soon want to let go of it! There are two ways you can help with this. You can either invest in a few tickets or work at the Tulare Fair and help us to offer the tickets to the public. The suggested donation is 6 for $10 or $2 each. The education classes will soon be wrapping up with Ben Douglas presenting on finishing. The full series of classes has been excellent. Bill Lynam has been a busy little bee again too and has secured an agreement with JISCO who is a local abrasive manufacturer to offer a discount to club members. You will be hearing more about this in the very near future. Have fun at the fair and see you at the next meeting.

Sincerely,

David Dunlap
